While worldwide subscriber numbers of mobile networks operated with GSM or other similar technologies, the global users of CDMA based mobile phone or so called “fixed-wireless” services continue to grow.
According to the CDMA Development Group who recently published that the CDMA industry increased its subscriber base by almost 17% over the past year to 451 million during the first quarter of 2008, CDMA subscribers worldwide, with CDMA2000 and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO are now reaching respectively 438 million and 97 million.

China’s ZTE reports to have shipped more than 11,000 CDMA base stations in the first 6 months of 2007. This figure represents a 250% increase compared with same period last year, thus resulting in ZTE meeting its 2006 annual target, with still five more months before the year ends.

Finally there’s news on the choice of standard China is targeting to use and implement before the Olympics in Bejing 2008. We’ve been waiting for this.
And not surprisingly the Chinese answer is typical Chinese. Instead of choosing one over the other they choose to adopt both the western WCDMA/CDMA2000 technologies as well as their own homegrown TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) for the nation’s third-generation mobile-phone networks, as Wang Lijian, a Beijing- based spokesman at the Ministry of Information Industry, declared 16th May.
